Rest in Peace Jeff & Blue

We Love You

Dear friends and family,

Thank you so much for your strong support of our family, Superstition Search and Rescue and Project Blue.   Our memorial event was a wonderful day to meet and thank everyone.  I am sorry many could not attend, or that I didn’t have a chance to talk to everyone who did attend.

Project Blue will be in full swing soon and we will be seeking political, business and private organizational support for our non-profit corporation.  More information to follow on the Project Blue Website expected to be launched later this year.  For those wanted to contribute to the launch of Project Blue and its efforts, tax deductible donations can be sent in the name of Project Blue to our PO Box below.  We are still (and always) collecting for the SSAR as well at the same address.  If you wish to contribute to them directly, please reference Jeff Block or Project Blue on your donation so they know the reason for your generosity.

Danny, Nancy, Jan and Sherwin

Checks made out directly to the SSAR, AZ Humane Society and MCSO Sky Rangers are tax deductible.  Please reference “in memory of Jeff Block” on your checks.  If you prefer, you can send checks directly to the organizations.  We presented a matching funds check to SSAR after the event on 10-13-12 and the AZ Humane Society insisted we use the funds collected on their behalf during the event for Project Blue.  Their generosity in providing their venue free of charge to our cause, and then donating collected funds to Project Blue, once again brings tears to my eyes.

We appreciate your help in funding this historic undertaking.

Please send contributions for Project Blue, SSAR, Arizona Humane Society or MCSO Sky Rangers to:

Project Blue

San Ramon, CA  94582

You may also send your donations directly to the organization of your choice if you prefer.

Thank You so much.  Thank you for helping us to support the kind of organizations and people that spend their lives helping others.

My husband and I saw a flier when resting at the old Seneca picnic area this week. We took a pic of the flier to post but I found the update here. Our prayers are with your family. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a son. May you find peace and solace in the new year.

Jeff and Blue were in my thoughts today…so I decided to drop in and catch up with the progress. Obstacles may be in your path but you have the determination to overcome them. Glad to hear things are going well.

  3. Cindy Schaider says:

Hi, all. I have not checked in for a while and am heart-warmed to see the love still being spread. Oddly enough, I found myself searching the side roads as we drove up through Payson last weekend and had to remind myself that Jeff and Blue had already crossed over. Something special happened here in these pages and on FB. Strangers coming together to help a stranger, somehow made us all into one big family. The Block family worries became our worries, their sorrow became our sorrow. I never fail to be moved to tears each time I check in. The selflessness of each person has been amazing. So, Jeff and Blue, while I never knew you I will never forget you, and the unexpected impact you made even as you shuffled off this mortal coil.

    • jbmissing says:

Cindy, you are so right and your words are so wonderful. Every one who tells me this warms the memory of Jeff’s passing. Thank you so much. Danny

    • vikkiz3 says:

Your words are so true. I did not know Jeff and Blue either, but I also feel the same as you. I to am moved to tears by the selflessness of ALL the people who devoted so much time and energy, and the strangers who have felt such a sorrow from someone they did not know. Not a day has gone by that I have not shed a tear for Jeff, Blue and the Family. Every time I drive through the Canyon now I will forever be thinking of Jeff and Blue and will be waiting for Project Blue to be put in place.

Rest in Peace Jeff and Blue.

  4. Crystal Palos says:

I’m so sorry to hear of Jeff and Blues passing. I just saw a flyer in Roseville, Ca at Cattlemens so I took a picture to put on my Facebook. Shortly after I noticed what had happen. ;/ Again, so sorry

  5. Pat Wilson says:

We were so saddened to read about Jeff and Blue’s being missing and then found killed at the bottom of the canyon. We will miss seeing them at the park.

  6. I did not know Jeff or your family. I only know of this situation because of the shared story on facebook through someone that plays a game I play. I am in Virginia and heard about it all the way across the country. This is the one case in which I think facebook is an excellent thing. This story touched me deeply and it truly broke my heart to hear your brother had passed. Though I am thankful that Jeff was found and your family was spared the heartache of not knowing. Today I found out by reading your posts that Blue had been found as well. I was praying that Blue would have survived so that you all would have a part of Jeff that would be around for a little while and help ease the loss. As you said Jeff and Blue would have wanted it the way it turned out. You did not say where Blue was found so I guess it was at the wreckage. The response you have received from strangers and friends alike is amazing. I will continue to pray for you and your family and hope that you all will find peace and ease of pain from the loss sooner than later. May the peace of the Lord be with you all.

    • jbmissing says:

Thank you Danciana, and thank your parents for giving you such a beautiful name.

Blue was found at the scene of the crash; I thought I had mentioned that but wanted to tell you all in case I didn’t. It was determined that he was ejected from the vehicle at or near the point of impact and would have been killed instantly as well. Some measure of comfort that neither Jeff nor Blue suffered a moment more that they had to.

  7. Doreen Doss says:

I live down the road from Jeff and would always see him walking Blue in the evenings. As neighbors are a “Hi, how are you?” was the extent of our conversation. I was touched by the outpouring of support you received and the extent of how you handled getting the word out. I am very saddened by the outcome, but you are a very special brother to be persistent in getting answers. Please know that I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Rest in Peace Jeff and Blue. 8. Vicki says:

I have been following this story and I have to say its been a long time since a story has touched my heart so deeply. I send my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Jeff and Blue and a special thanks to all who have helped to find them. Even though I did not know Jeff and Blue my heart hurts. I don’t remember every shedding so many tears for someone I did not know. I know that Jeff and Blue will be together forever as it should be. Many prayers to the family that your hearts will heal.

    • jbmissing says:

My family are all sitting together today for the first time, all together since Wednesday, and I just saw and read your comment to everyone. I had taken today off to be with Mom, Dad, my sister Nancy and her husband Ron, and my beautiful daughter Ashley who flew down to be with her Daddy through this and our trip to AJ to start all that comes next. We were all brought to tears by your wonderful sentiment. People like you do our hearts so much good I can’t even begin to tell you. Many of you on this site have touched our hearts similarly; this one just came at a perfect time. Thank you Vicki.

      Our love to you all.

Danny and the rest on Jeff’s family

      • Vicki says:

        Dear Danny and family,

I was deeply touched that you responded to my letter as I am sure this is a very difficult time for you and the family. I live in Washington state but have a house in A.J. that I plan to move to soon. I wish I could have met Jeff and Blue because I know from what I am reading in the posts that he was a great man and he comes from a loving, and caring family. Please know that all of you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. You touched my heart also.

My love to all of you.

  9. Keith Workman says:

So sorry to hear about Jeff. He and I worked together a few years ago at a mobile home sales lot. He was my best friend while I lived there and we stayed in touch for many years after. However we had lost contact with each other and that makes this much more sad. He was a gentleman he liked Honey Brown beer and he was a good friend. God Rest Your Soul Jeff.

  10. Carrie says:

That would be awesome if that reward money was donated back to the costs of the funeral.

    • Jeff Mendonca says:

Friends — A roadside memorial needs to be registered with ADOT so that DPS does not remove it. I will proceed to do this.. but it could be a week or two before it is placed at the exit point along highway 60. Would you kindly email me a picture or items you want placed.

      • jbmissing says:

        Hi Jeff,

We will not be placing a memorial roadside; certainly not in view of of the road at all. We will also not be placing a memorial without proper authorization wherever we decide to put it. And you don’t need to worry about forms or other procedures until we decide where this will go. Regarding the design, size, etc., Brandi will be be approving the design with family before anything is released. So, thanks for taking the lead on this wonderful suggestion, and I just wanted everyone to know we are working on it; thru the proper channels, and no additional assistance is needed at this time.

Thanks again Jeff. Look forward to meeting you in person. Kelly says nothing but wonderful things about you and I can tell they are all true.

  11. Ronda Reed says:

Perhaps a heart with a fishing rod, reel, and a picture of Blue in the center?? That seems fitting. 🙂

  12. I was very happy to be the one to find Jeffery’s truck in the Salt River Canyon. I received EXCELLENT RESPONSE from DPS in Show Low. We all spent yesterday, Wednesday doing the recovery. Thank God for giving me the direction to look! Lee Hansen Show Low

    • jbmissing says:

I am so happy to hear from you and wanted to know who it was that was guided to help find my brother. We were offering a $2000 reward (typo earlier; sorry) for anyone who brought us this information on Jeff’s whereabouts. If you contact me on personal email and let me know how to reach you we can discuss this further. I want to talk to you and hear about what led you to stop and look.
I am so grateful for the peace you have brought to my family

    • jeff mendonca says:

Lee … would you kindly give us the coordinates? And if Dan is ok with this we can place a roadside memorial by the spot where he exited. Let me know.

    • jules says:

You, Sir, are truly a godsend.
